The Mary & James S. Craik Special Collections Room at the SAR Genealogical Research Library

The Mary & James S. Craik Special Collections Room features museum quality pieces relating to the early history of the Unites States and the American Revolution. The room is located on the north side of the mezzanine in the SAR Genealogical Research Library. It is named after SAR member, James Craik, and his wife Mary. Mr. Craik was a descendant of Dr. James Craik, George Washington’s personal physician. The Craiks generously donated to the SAR a miniature portrait of Dr. Craik painted by Charles Willson Peale at Valley Forge in the winter of 1778. The miniature had been passed down through the Craik family through the wives of the male line for generations. It is now prominently displayed in the room. Exhibits in the room include both items owned by the NSSAR and items on loan from other organizations. Exhibits rotate periodically, so be sure and check back often to see what’s new!
